Interwetten review

Interwetten review BettingFellow Rating: 8.50/10

UK betting sites are, for one reason or another, widely considered to be at the forefront of the online betting business. A lot of the companies that not only established traditional sports betting as we know it today but made online sports betting the giant it currently is, come from the United Kingdom. However, they aren’t the only ones.

In this review, we’ll be taking a close look at one of the only bookmakers out there that don’t even accept customers from the UK. We’re also using this as a disclaimer for our British readers – this one might not be for you.

Interwetten was originally founded in Austria and has since become the top online bookmaker in the German-speaking world. That’s not the full extent of their influence, however, Interwetten is popular throughout Europe. We would even say that distinctly European outlook is one of this bookie’s defining characteristics.

It is pretty much the only online bookie we’ve come across who's focus is on targeting as many international markets as possible. Rather than just provide their regular services in a few languages, Interwetten makes you feel like it’s there just for you, regardless of your country of origin. We’re aware that this is a fairly vague compliment, but don’t worry: we’ll get right into the details of why Interwetten is such a highly rated betting site.

Interwetten – International Pioneers

Interwetten review

Interwetten was founded in 1990 in Vienna. This was several years before online betting came around, but Interwetten was never a typical brick-and-mortar betting shop. Instead, they originally operated remotely the old-school way: punters would make their bets using telephone calls. This may sound a bit strange today, but this was how people started truly realising that sports betting can work perfectly well from the comfort of your own home.

This sort of background gave Interwetten a head start when online sports betting came around a few years later. They first took their business online in 1997 – which makes them the second bookmaker ever to do this. The entire industry is where it is today partly thanks to bookies that took these uncertain first steps.

This also means that Interwetten has over 20 years of experience in an industry that is generally considered younger than that. That’s why they are considered one of the most reliable betting sites on the market.

These two decades were also marked with constant and rapid growth, resulting in a major betting company with a turnover of more than €700 million. The online sportsbook operates in more than 70 countries worldwide, and their services have grown to include online casinos, live casinos, virtual sports, and much more.

As we’ve glossed over, Interwetten was met with the most success in central and southern Europe. This is reflected through at least two things: firstly, this is probably the best online bookmaker when it comes to Bundesliga betting odds. Secondly, most of their sponsorship deals cover teams from the Bundesliga and Serie A, most notably VfB Stuttgart.

Licensing & Safety

As a highly respected and trusted online bookie, Interwetten operates under several different licences. They are currently registered as a company in Malta, meaning that their main remote gambling licence is issued by the Malta Gaming Authority, which is one of the most respected regulative bodies of its kind.

Besides that, the Spanish branch of the company - InterwettenEspana Plc. – is authorised by the Spanish regulatory authority DGOJ to legally operate in Spain.

As of 2012, Interwetten has also been authorised to offer sports betting in Schleswig-Holstein, a state in the north of Germany.

This is also why their online betting services are not available for residents of the UK – Interwetten does not possess a UKGC licence. This fact is a bit unusual, but does not lessen their credibility – it merely limits them from and otherwise very profitable chunk of the market. There are quite a few other countries for which services are unavailable, so make sure to check the list of available countries before attempting to sign up.

What does contribute to their glowing reputation as a safe betting site, however, is the fact that Interwetten is one of the founding members of the non-profit organisation European Gaming & Betting Association (EGBA), and a regular member of the European Sports Security Association (ESSA). These two organisations are dedicated to keeping sports betting responsible, transparent and, most importantly, safe.

Speaking of security, Interwetten’sonline betting platform is kept safe through cutting-edge SSL protocols provided by Thawte. Thawte is one of the biggest names when it comes to internet security and certification, so you can rest easy knowing you’re in good hands.

Your personal information is secure with Interwetten, and will never be used in ways you do not wish it to be. However, it may be passed to ESSAas part of the organization’s early warning system against corruption in sports-related betting.

Deposit and Withdrawals

As a world-class international sportsbook, Interwetten made sure to provide its users with enough payment options to satisfy even the most demanding customers.

For starters, almost all types of credit cards are accepted at Interwetten. These include Visa, Mastercard, and Diners Club, as well as the Maestro Secure Code. Similar options include Vpay, ofort.com and Trustly.

The list goes on to cover a host of eWallets and online payment systems, such as Skrill, Neteller, Ecopayz and Paypal. A fairly recent addition to this list is also MuchBetter, an award-winning app designed specifically with online betting and gaming platforms in mind.

Other options include special Interwetten vouchers, the Paysafecard, and bank transfers for the traditionally-minded punter.

We are pleased to say that all of these options are free of any kind of fees or tariffs, regardless of the method. Most of them are also instant, barring bank transfers which may take a while to confirm.

When it comes to withdrawals, however, Interwetten has a security procedure which we have not seen with any other online bookie. The first withdrawal you ever make has to be made directly to your bank account, which can take anywhere between 2 and 7 workdays. After that, you can go back to using standard methods.

The standard withdrawal time is under 24 hours, which is competitive with the world’s best online bookmakers. The minimum payout is €30 or your chosen currency’s equivalent, which is a bit annoying, but otherwise not a major problem.

Speaking of currencies, Interwetten accepts quite a few possibilities. These include Swiss Franks, Euros, Norwegian Crowns, Pound Sterling, Swedish Crowns, Singapore Dollars, Turkish Lira, and US Dollars.

Customer Support

In our experience, an excellent base betting offer or betting promotions are what makes you sign up for a bookie; excellent customer service is what you stay for. Just take a look at any top-rated bookmaker and you’ll notice this trend as well. The longest-standing and most respected bookies have changed and improved their odds and whatnot, but what made them stick around with a loyal customer base is the service.

Our point is, although this aspect is easy to overlook, its importance can’t be stressed enough. If you’ve ever had run-ins with terrible customer relations, you’ll know exactly what we mean.

AS such, Interwetten tries to bring the best support to their users. We’ve found their service representatives friendly and helpful, but there are a couple of glaring issues in this department.

First of all, there is no live chat feature. Bookmakers in 2020 have found that this is nowadays the best way for customers to contact a company, for a lot of reasons. It’s much faster and easier than e-mail and allows your questions or issues to be addressed right then and there, resulting in efficient communication. It also does not have some of the problems phones do, such as being put on hold and the myriad issues that come up with international calls.

Still, there are several ways by which you can contact Interwetten’s team:

Contact Form:Simply click the “Contact” link at the bottom of the Interwetten and fill in the provided form. This option functions much like an email but is a bit more convenient.

Email Support:You can contact Interwetten’s support staff by emailing them directly to [email protected]. Please note that this contact is for communication in English – there are other options for the several languages Interwetten offers their services in.

Telephone Support: If you’re still in need of real-time support, there is a Maltese phone number provided on Interwetten’s website: 0035-6-23 276 355.

FAQ / Help center: Their website also features a fairly comprehensive help section, that can answer a lot of your questions.

Interwetten proudly states that their staff is available 24/7, which is always nice. Customer Service is also available in several languages, including German, Greek, Spanish, French, Croatian, Italian, and Portuguese.

Market & Odds

In terms of the number of sports on offer, Interwetten’s offer is varied enough to compare with the best. Their online sportsbook boasts more than 25 different sports, covering a lot of niches and preferences with everything from mainstays like football betting to futsal, floorball, and MMA.

Their offer for motorsport betting is often praised especially, with a wide selection of markets and events. If Formula 1 is what you’re looking for, for example, Interwetten might just be the best betting site out there for such purposes.

We are also pleased to say that esports is featured more prominently than with a lot of other bookies. This form of entertainment has been getting a lot of traction recently and including it was a smart move on Interwetten’s part.

Of course, like most top online bookies, the most developed markets are for football, basketball, and tennis. Seeing how UK punters cannot use Interwetter, the Premier League is not as much of a focus as you might be used to. However, Champions League betting is as big as ever, and this leaves more room for other European top leagues. As we’ve mentioned previously, Interwetten’s odds for Bundesliga and other major European football competitions are a cut above most of their competitors’.

Speaking of odds, Interwetten's are very much competitive. Professional punters might find better value elsewhere, but for most recreational bettors they are quite good. What we especially liked, however, is the consistency in terms of their betting offers. The odds are not just good – they’re good no matter which sport, market, or event you choose.

Interwetten odds and markets

In-Play Betting

Live betting on Interwetten is available through a separate tab at the top of the screen. Where their odds for standard sportsbook bets are more-or-less in line with the rest of the industry, live betting is where Interwetten truly excels. In terms of value, these in-play odds are some of the best we’ve come across.

Moreover, there is an incredible amount of variety in terms of markets. As we were writing this review, we came across events such as Under 17 and Under 21 matches, which is rare even among top betting sites in 2020. We also saw offers for fairly niche sports such as table tennis. There are even live betting offers for eSports, which is not something you often come across.

The one downside to Interwetten’s in-play section is the design of the interface. Whereas this betting site’s design is fairly good and user-friendly as a whole, we’ve found the interface for live events to be somewhat lacking. There are no convenient charts or statistics such as the best betting sites often provide, just a list of markets. This is by no means a deal-breaker but would have been a nice quality-of-life improvement.

Interwetten Live Streaming Offer

IF you’re looking for a site that’s not just for placing bets, but also a place to enjoy your favourite sports – you’ve come to the right place. Interwetten boasts one of the most robust sports live streaming services we’ve come across on an internet sportsbook. They host a variety of sporting events, such as:

  • European and international football leagues
  • ITF tennis tournaments
  • Numerous basketball leagues
  • International ice hockey tournaments
  • IHF, EHF and national handball leagues
And a large number of other sporting events. Much like for their live betting section, Interwetten is a top sports betting site if you’re looking for quality live streams.

Interwetten Bookmaker Margin

Here, we’ve finally come to Interwetten’s biggest downside. If you were to rank the world’s top online bookmakers by their margins alone, Interwetten would not come out looking very good. They have an average of a whopping 7.3% across the board, which is well above industry standards. Many of their competitors have half that, which adds up in the long term.

Remember how we praised Interwetten for the consistency of their odds? Well here, that’s not exactly a good thing, because their margins are also consistently high. Football and Tennis are standing out with a 7.5% and 7.6% margin respectively, which is baffling considering how popular football betting is. Other sports don’t fare much better, sadly, and are all subject to a margin over 7%.

We would suggest Interwetten rethink their policies when it comes to this subject because their bookmaker rating in terms of margins is lagging far behind most of the competition.

Overall Review

As with any bookie, there are a lot of pros and cons to Interwetten. For example, with a live betting and streaming service that they have, they easily outperform much bigger brands. There is a clear vision for what Interwetten wants to be.

So we can’t help but be left with a bitter taste in our mouths when we consider just how little it would take for them to be pushed into the highest echelons of top-rated betting sites. If other, less experienced bookies can make much lower margins work profitably, we don’t see why Interwetten couldn’t do it too. Especially considering what an industry pioneer they are.

We’ll close off with some praise aimed towards their reputation, however. Even among the most reputable and trusted online bookmakers, Interwetten is a standout, and we have nothing applaud this side to their service.

If, all things considered, Interwetten sounds like a good choice for you, they’re spicing it up with an excellent welcome bonus. It comes in the form of a first deposit bonus that doubles your initial deposit, up to €100. What we especially enjoy about this excellent betting promotion is that it’s not given strictly as a free bet – you can cash it in in a lot of ways, including with Interwetten’s casinos.

Interwetten review FAQ

Is Interwetten safe?

As a legitimate company with proper licencing and over 2 decades of history, yes – Interwetten is a completely safe betting site. We’d like to point out that safety and responsibility are some of their greatest strengths, as we’ve mentioned several times in this review.

What is Interwetten’s maximum payout?

The maximum amount you can win with a single bet is €10.000, or your regional currency’s equivalent. Otherwise, the biggest amount you can withdraw from Interwetten is €20.000 per day, and/or €100.000 per week.

Interwetten – how to use the welcome bonus?

Access to Interwetten’ssignup deal works a bit differently than what you might be used to. For starters, you don’t need a promotional code or something like that. Instead, it is given with a five-step process near the end of the registration procedure. If you’ve done all of these correctly, you should have a 100% of your initial deposit on your account.

This bonus is especially convenient because of its flexibility. You won’t be able to withdraw it, of course, but you can use it in any way you see fit, as long as it’s a part of Interwetten’s service. It doesn’t matter if you want free bets for Cheltenham betting or just a few free spins on a slot machine. Additionally, the conditions for using these are not very restrictive. For the sports betting bonus, you must use the bonus amount five times, at bets with minimum decimal odds of 1.7.

How long does it take to withdraw money at Interwetten?

That depends on your chosen payment method. Most payments are cleared within 24 hours. However, bank wire transfers could take a while longer, usually between 2 and 7 workdays. The only slightly annoying part is that your first withdrawal must be made using bank transfers, for safety reasons.

Interwetten – what is cash-out and how does it work?

Cash-out is a very popular feature among top sports betting sites that allows you to settle your bet before the sporting event is over. Note that the cash-out option is not available for all bets at Interwetten. When it is, it will be visibly available in the ‘My Bets’ section.

Of course, the payout for cashing out is not the same as if the bet was completed regularly. If you cash-out before the event in question kicks off, you will simply get your stake back. However, if the match is already in progress, the amount you can cash out depends on how the event is progressing. Specifically, the betting odds will drift according to the probability of your wager.

Let’s explain through an example. Imagine your wagering that Team A will win against Team B in a simple 1X2 football bet. If Team A is in the lead, you will be able to cash out for a profit. The profit will be smaller than if you wait for the end, but if you cash out you can avoid suddenly losing the bet if the score changes later in the match. The returns will slowly increase as the match progresses and the likelihood of Team A increases, or if they increase their lead. Conversely, if Team B is in the lead, you will be able to cash out for an amount smaller than the initial stake. This can allow you to cut your losses and get a portion of your bet back. However, this forfeits any chance of Team A turning things around and your bet winning.

What does Interwetten mean?

Interwetten was initially founded in Austria, and ‘wetten’ means ‘bet’ in German. Beyond that, Interwetten is simply the brand name of the online sports betting site.

Is there an Interwetten app?

Yes, there is a dedicated Interwetten bet app available for both Android and iOS. The Interwetten app for iPhone is readily available on the Apple Store. However, access to the Android version is not that easy. Due to Google Play Store not allowing gambling apps in most countries, you cannot find the app there. Instead, you’ll have to download it from the official website. Click the Android option for an Interwetten APK download. Once that’s done, you simply need to run the APK file and allow the app to be installed.

Note that you will need to give your device permission to install apps from unknown sources. Newer models will simply ask for permission when you attempt to install the Interwetten APK file. For some models, however, you will have to allow this in the Security tab of your phone/tablet’s Settings menu.

Which deposit methods are available at Interwetten?

You can deposit at Interwetten using any of the following methods:

  • Visa/Master Card/Diners Club/Maestro cards
  • Vpay
  • Sofort
  • Trustly
  • Skrill
  • Neteller
  • Ecopayz
  • Paypal
  • MuchBetter
  • Paysafecard
  • Bank transfer
  • Interwetten vouchers

The payment options at Interwetten are broad enough to satisfy even the pickiest of punters. Moreover, all of these options are instant barring bank transfers, and there are no fees involved with any of them.

How do I verify my account at Interwetten?

There are two ways in which you can verify the Interwetten account. The first is to send a scan or photo of your passport and a consumption bill to [email protected]. Alternatively, you can upload the required documents in the ‘Pay Outs’ section of the online sportsbook.

If you’re wondering what a consumption bill is, you’re not alone. A consumption bill here refers to any sort of receipt that confirms that you are living at your current address. This can be a phone bill, electricity bill, or something of that kind. The important thing is that the receipt is no older than 3 months and that your name, address, and date are clearly visible on the photo/scan. This KYC verification process is standard with legal betting sites and is performed for several reasons. The first is so they can be sure you are of age. Secondly, they must ensure that your address is correct to prevent possible abuse. Thirdly, they need to be able to access any financial records associated with Interwetten for legal reasons.

How do I get the Interwetten bonus?

Interwetten uses a different system for online sports betting promotions compared to most other major sportsbooks. Essentially, you need to complete the rollover requirement before you can get access to your bonus funds. Although this makes it harder to actually get to your Interwetten bonus, it’s a rather transparent way of doing things. For example, this system never prohibits you from withdrawing funds due to unfulfilled turnover requirements. Once the bonus is credited to your account, it means you’ve already completed the terms. The total amount of the Interwetten welcome bonus is divided into 5 steps, which makes the whole thing less of a headache. Here’s how to claim your Interwetten bonus.

The total rollover requirement is 5x, meaning you need to wager the deposit amount 5 times to get the full bonus. This is divided into 5 stages, with you getting 20% of the bonus amount each time you roll over the full deposit amount. For example, the maximum deposit you can get a signup bonus for is 100% of €100. Once you’ve wagered €100, you receive a €20. This continues in stages – each time you wager €100, you receive another €20. The best part about this is that the bonus funds are not limited or controlled in any way, and can be used however you want. However, as per the Interwetten terms and conditions, wagers need to be made at odds of 1.70 or above to count towards the turnover requirement.

Why can’t I withdraw my Interwetten bonus?

Read the previous question in this FAQ to understand how the sportsbook bonus works at Interwetten. Once you have your bonus, you will need to wager it once before you can withdraw it. Essentially, this converts bonus funds into regular money that can be withdrawn freely. Although that sounds annoying, most competitors have far more stringent turnover requirements for sportsbook welcome bonuses.

What is the Interwetten mobile betting bonus?

Interwetten offers a special mobile betting promotion to incentivize their customers to play on the go. Here’s how to get to it.

All you need to do is place a bet on mobile, using either the Interwetten app or the website for mobile. Both single and multiple bets can work, as long as the total odds exceed 1.70. If you lose the wager, you can get a full refund of your stake up to €25. All you have to do is e-mail [email protected] with ‘Mobile Cashback’ as the subject and state your username in the message. Your stake will be returned in the form of free bets within the next 24 hours. The only other requirement is that you have to have deposited at least €20 at Interwetten.

Who owns Interwetten?

Interwettns is a privately owned company, though its ownership is not publically disclosed. It operates under the umbrella of the Interwetten Group, which has several subsidiaries. For example, the international sports betting site is based in Malta and registered there, though there are several other companies such as InterwettenEspana.

Can I play at Interwetten in Spain?

Yes. However, to offer services to Spanish customers, a company has to be registered in Spain and covered by Spanish gambling laws and the local gambling regulative body. This has lead to the creation of a local subsidiary called InterwettenEspana plc. Interwetten in Spain can be accessed by going to www.interwetten.es.

How do I close my Interwetten account?

If you want to permanently delete your Interwetten account, you can do so by contacting customer support at [email protected]. Although it’s recommended that you withdraw any remaining funds on your account before requesting account closure, you will be able to request a manual withdrawal after the account has been closed.

Alternatively, Interwetten also allows you to set up self-exclusion terms in the pursuit of responsible gaming. You can also do so by contacting Intwetten customer support.
